Typing.....

OK, I have to confess that I'm not satisfied with my typing speed at my pc. So I searched for some programs to get faster and found a program that was probably produced for Windows 2000, so it's really ........ old! But it still seems to do what it's supposed to do.

It's called "TypeFaster" (what an odd name) and you can find info about it on "http://www.typefastertypingtutor.com/ " (the site is ancient) and download it by pressing the download button at the bottom of the site.

This program seems to be so popular (appart from old) that when I looked for similar programs (which would be a bit newer this time) I couldn't find something at the 1st page of the google results, so I still use this one (I was bored to push the button for the next page......)!!!!!!

But then I gave it another look and found a site with some games that can speed up your typing without using the touchtyping way (which is also used by TypeFaster).

I'm back (at last)!!!!! It was going to be two weeks and turned out to be a month without blogging!!!!! Anaway.....I've got some new ideas for my blog(s) so don't worry.

Well, you have the best programs, all their shortcuts on your desktop, the ones that you use more on the QuickLunch bar, the time and date at the bottom right side of your screen, the open programs next to the time and........ that's all!!!!! But I think the most important is still missing........A great wallpaper!!!!!!

Real player

Guess what....... I'm back!!!!!! I haven't posted a word for about 2 weeks and just thought of it yesterday........ (that's how much I love my blog!!!!!!!). Anyway, since my last post I've learnt the basics of the html, learnt some amazing things in German (not really) and I've thought to start up a new blog....... but I'm still not sure.......

So, real player is not only a player (as its name suggests). It's a program that "helps" you download videos from sites (such as youtube.com and so on) it "helps" you privew them and do kinda lot of things. The only thing that is sure about it is that all these things are free and it's not like save2pc, which has a lot of limitations or youtube grabber, which doesn't really work!!!! So, forget them and download Real Player at the following site:
"http://www.real.com" (a difficult site to remember!!!). The link is located at the top left side of the site.

Finally, all that time I haven't posted I downloaded a wide range of ROCK songs!!!!!!

Save2pc

Do you remember "Replay Media Catcher" ? It just had the ability to download 75% of every video on every site (the free version). If the site you are using for your videos is youtube.com, then Save2pc is a great idea. The free version downloads videos from youtube.com without limitations, like 75% or less. It's easy to use; you just need to copy the URL of a video and paste it on a gap that the program has and ...... wait until it's downloaded!!!! Videos are saved into .avi files, so you won't need an FLV player. Make sure you have the latest version of DivX.
Other versions of the program allow you to download videos from a wide variety of sites, including youtube.com, but still need that you pay some money......
To download the latest version of Save2pc Light (this is the free version) visit the following site: "http://www.save2pc.com/download.html" and press the "Save2pc Light" to start downloading. Save2pc Gold (the full version) is just above the light one.

By the way, if you don't know how to edit your videos (e.g. taking only some parts of it, adding some basic effects, ......) you can use Windows Movie Maker to do it, so if you only want a part of a video from youtube.com or just a part of a video that you have, you can do it this way:
1. Open Window Movie Maker and add a video to your "collection".
2. Take the whole video or the part of it that you want to edit. Drag it to the storyboard and then change it to the timeline mode
3. magnify the video to be able to cut the right part.
4. press and hold the left place of the video on the timeline and move it to the right until you find the place your video (the edited one) will start
5. press and hold the right place of the video on the timeline and move it to the left until you find the place your video (the edited one) will end.
6. Press : "File/Save movie file...." and not "File/Save project" and then follow the wizard's instructions to save it as a .wmv file. It can be played with W. Media Player and Winamp, as well.

Typeracer

Do you think you write really fast on your keyboard? Well, think about it once again after you visit typeracer.com, the site of the fastest typers on earth!!!
It's like a game and all you have to do is make an account and then start playing! The aim is to write the sentence that is given to you as fast as possible without making any mistakes. Then your speed is compiled into wpm (words per minute) and it is added to your average. To become the best player online you have to make the best average OR if you don't really mind about becoming the best make just one really fast race (about 150 wpm) to be seen FOR A WHOLE MINUTE at the home-site!!!
If you are still socked with my words about 150 wpm, you should also note that the best score ever is 180.4 wpm and my average is ........ about 34 wpm (this is really strange, since everyone tells me I write really fast!!!) !!!! Have fun!! (This means: "I wish you never reach my average :P"!!!).

SubSync (subtitles synchroniser)

It happens a lot of times to download a movie and then its subtitles. Sometimes the subtitles are wrong and appear on your screen some seconds earlier or later than the normal. There are some programs that fix the subtitles while you watch the movie, but they do it only for differences of 2-3 seconds (e.g. "BSplayer"). If the problem doesn't really have to do with a whole second but with some milliseconds, or if you are confused with the way these programs work, what happens next? I'll tell you : "SubSync" (this is what happens next!). It is a Windows media player based program and it's designed so that you can separately edit any subtitle with multiple tools, while watching the exact part of the movie they are added at. Well, it's not always necessary to have subs, if your mother-language is English, but for me it's sometimes necessary (if not always). I'm happy that at last I found a site you will propably not know!!!

friv.com is a gaming site in which you can pick up a game out of 250 games. Let me mention a great problem of this site; All the games are presented as very small pictures but I can tell you where are the games that I find good/funny!
Make sure you visit the site before you read the following, just to know where to look when you read my directions

1. Avalanche
It's located at the middle right of the site and the picture looks like a small stickfigure with some spikes falling on it. What you have to do in this game, is to avoid as many spikes as you can so that they don't hit the inner parts of the stickfigure's body (as for the outer parts, it's ok, you won't lose!!!). My record is 298 spikes; tell me if you make a better one!

2. Gravitat
It's located at the last column at the right, 3 games below the exclamation mark (!). It looks like a logic game and it actually is, but still really interesting (I use the words "but" and "still" because some people don't really like logic and maths. The only sure about them is that they are my opponents!!!). Anyway, it's a great game (I don't remember my record!!!).

3. 3D logic
The absoloute logic game. It's located at the second row and it's the 10th game if you start counting from the left to the right. See for yourself what it is about, becase it's really easy to understand what you have to do if you see the "Help" section!

Wikipedia

I don't know why I always think about sites and programs that are widely known, but I'll talk about them even if you know them....

This time I selected wikipedia.org . It seems that it's the biggest and freeest (although this word doesn't actually exist!!!) encyclopedia on the internet. You can find info about whatever you can imagine in a wide range of languages. In addition, by making an account you can edit an article that you think has a mistake or write your own article about a piece of info that doesn't exist on the site, or your language. All that by paying nothing!!!!

A good idea that I took under strong consideration recently is translating English articles to my language (since I know both languages really well) and then add the articles to the version of my country!!! So if it happens for you to know 2 languages (or more) it can be a good idea!!!!

Finally, since I really like music, I thought about mentioning some songs I find good at the end of every post, so if you have heard or are planning to listen to one of them, then tell me your comments!!!!

P2P downloading , Torrents

Well, I was not sure about whether to mention these programs or not, but in the end I decided to do so.... Note: All of the following programs are completely ILLEGAL, so if you still think you can/want to stay completely legal, download none of them.

1.Limewire/Frostwire
If you know these programs and have ever thought that the only similarity between them is the ending of their name, you were clearly mistaken!! Both of them are made by the same company and have the same features and appearance. They are both based on Peer to peer exchange (P2P) and are fast enough for every kind of expectations (appart from the case that you want to have every single .mp3 or .avi or whatever downloaded at a second, which is a bit impossible!!!). Anyway, with them you can download music, videos, images, (programs) or documents. But they are most times used as audio downloaders, because nobody download anything elese on a P2P propgram, due to low quality. You can find these programs at the following sites : "http://www.limewire.com" and "http://www.frostwire.com" (how difficult and strange site names ....)
Note: The appearance of the last version of Limewire (5.1.4) is a bit different than the older one and as a resault, different than the Frostwire's one. But I think this is not a problem for anyone.

2. Vuze (Azureus) / μTorrent
I'm sure you know a lot about Torrent downloading (me too). We all know you should forget it, but if it's necessary not to, here's some info about these 2 programs
Vuze is a great Torrent downloading program and offers a wide variety of Torrents that might look like the ones you want to download. It's too fast for your imagination (and sometimes for the imagination of your Internet connection!!!) so you won't face any problems in this field. The only problem that you can face by using Vuze, is that it needs a great part of your RAM, so make sure that you have a RAM with a high ammount of MegaBytes/GigaBytes. In addition, it sometimes makes conflict with other open programs, so in this case I'd suggest μTorrent (this symbol at the beginning of the programs name "μ" is the letter that is pronounced like "m" in greek). μTorrent uses only a small amount of your RAM and makes no conflicts with other open programs, BUT the download rates are not that high. So if you are planning to download and use one of these 2, pick the one that matches your pc's abilities (and your imagination!!!).

First of all, sorry I haven't posted for so long but I've been rather busy with my summer holidays , which started just 3 days ago !!! All these 3 days I've been thinking about what my next post will be about...... but without success!!! So yesterday I thought it would be a good idea if I said something about some interesting sites for a change!

In my last post I mentioned "Face-op". Well forget it, because a comment just made me unistall it, because it was in fact ridiculous (I mean the program, not the comment!!!). So now you don't even need to install a program to morph your pictures or make them of better quality; just visit photoshop.com , make an account, upload your photos, edit them, download the edited ones, make your own "site" (it's like blogger) and publish your photos, so that everybody can see them!!

2. hi5.com , facebook.com
I don't think it's necessary to mention what you do there. Make your own profile, add your characteristics, add a photo, accept comments, friend invitations, application invitations and play tons of games.

3. youtube.com
Well by 99% you know it. But if you are one of the people who own an Internet connection and do not (still) know youtube.com, then youtube.com is a site full of videos. It contains every kind of video that you can (and can't) imagine. For example, if you really like chemistry, visit youtube.com and find a video about the combilation of an alkali metal (Li, Na, K, Rb,Cs) with water (H2O). Or if you don't really like that and prefer things about computers, watch some tutorial videos about C++ or Java !!!

4. skreemr.com
Download every kind of song that you want. Some interesting features: Completely free, not P2P downloading (and as a resault faster downloading), safe songs (although they are of course illegal) and a lot of other things.

Face-op

Well, you have one of your pictures, but..... you don't really like it (me too). Then just morph it!!!! Download face-op and start making pictures like soup!!! I mean, like the following ones (I made them but they are still not mine!!!) :

I found it interesting and I still do, but I think you're going to have some problems with this program, since it's not free and the free version doesn't allow you to save your pictures. But I'm here to help you save your pictures without needing to purchase the full version. Just press the "Print Scrn" button next to the scroll lock and then open "Paint". Press Edit/Paste and then copy the part of the photo pasted that seems to be the part of your picture that you want. Then Press File/New. At the new window press "No" and then at the new Paint-window that appers press Edit/Paste and save the resault as a .bmp or a .jpg picture.

Well, in this case, I don't really know where you can find this thing!!

Third possible solution: Font Creator
Download and install "Font Creator" and create your own fonts!!!

In case you select "three" after a lot of thinking, I'll make you think about it even more just by telling you the following:

2.Full version (Until you destroy your hard disc, or even your computer without keeping the setup file)

Google Products

Google is not only a web search engine. It has a lot of other products that help you do plenty of things you could not even imagine. Some of them are:

1.Google Chrome.

I've not even tried it, because I really like "Internet Explorer", but I've heard a lot of great things about it. It seems to be a really fast search engine and it can do a lot of things that other browsers can't (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, ...). (more info: "http://www.google.com/chrome")

2.Google Desktop

Once, I used to have this program, but it needed a rather big part of my RAM, and my computer only has a total of 768 MB RAM, so it always stuck and I unistalled it. But if you have a bigger one, it's a really useful program that can help you do things immediately, if you are really bored of needing to open a lot of windows to find what you want. 3.Google Earth

4.Google accounts - Gmail

Ok, I know I don't need to talk about that because you might have a Google account since you are a member of blogger. However, with your Google account you can also have a mail (like the Live Messenger), you can have a "Picasa" account or even get money by adding "Google Ads" to your blog or site.

Enso

Well, a lot of times you see people pressing buttons on their keyboard furiously, like they want to achieve something great. Want to become like them ??? Then here's the solution!!! To tell you the truth this program is not going to teach you how to write fast or "furiously", but it just allows you to open any program or folder by the pressing of some buttons. For me it's really useful, since I was in the situation of needing to open 10 folders until I find the subfolder that I wanted. So now I just write the words "open ldd" and the folder is open, waiting for me! The program is called "Enso" and I hope you find it as useful as I do. This program runs automatically when you open your pc and works at any time that you want. The only think that I have to mention in this case is that it uses just one button (e.g. right shift). This means that every time you press the right shift and hold it, everything that you write refers to "Enso" and not to other open programs (as "Word" or "openoffice"). Of course you can change this button at any time and select one out of 6 or 7 recommended buttons.

You can find more information about the program on the following site: "http://www.humanized.com". By the way, "Humanized" is the company that has produced "Enso". "Enso" is completely free and if you download it at the site I wrote above you are not going to face any problems due to viruses.

"Humanized" also has some other interesting programs but they really look like other ones that already exist in every Windows based computer, so I don't think that I'm going to mention them in another post. But if you want to learn more you can visit the site above...

Super

I don't know how can a program be called "Super", but I'm sure that it will have super features! "Super" is a super converter and can convert almost every type of codec to every type of similar codec. It doesn't have to do only with videos, or only with music. It is a converter for everything. It can even be a video to music converter. I know you can do multiple conversions on the internet, but on the internet you need to upload your old file and then download the new one. So if you are bored of doing this thing again and again, "Super" is here to help you!!!

Press it and on the new site that appears press the link that says "download and use" which is located between the red letters. DivX

You might have heard something about "DivX", but what is it, actually? DivX is a codec that has to do with high quality videos. Today most ".avi" videos need a program that recognises the divx codec to be played. A program to do this is simply called "DivX" ! But it's not just an invisible program that opens ".avi" files. It is a converter, a player, a codec (!!!) and much more. I remember me being only able to listen to the sound of downloaded movies without that program, but a friend of mine told me to try DivX ; and I was amazed to see video!!! By the way, when you have the program installed you don't really need to open it every time you want to see an ".avi" video. You just use your current player and it works automatically.

Youtube Grabber

Just another way to download videos from youtube. You open the program ..... write the video's link and ...... it starts downloading. Well I suppose that it happens like that, because from the time that I downloaded it, it never downloaded something for me, but ..... let's say it will work on your computer!!! I downloaded it on the following site: "http://download.cnet.com/Youtube-Grabber/3000-2071_4-10574801.html" but if you do the same and have no different resaults ... just find another way to download the right program (there must be another way, but for the time being I don't know it!!)

By the way, I was planning to make another blog that would have to do with sientific things (maybe chemistry or astrophysics or something like that), but I still have no ideas about it's subject. If you do, just write a comment below and I'll take the idea under cosideration. Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Cube

Well, I don't know if you ever had the chance to hold a Rubik's cube on your hands, but I did and still do have the chance to do that. I even went a step forward and solved the cube (ok, with a little help of some videos on youtube), and still have the ability to do this. But I can understand that there are a lot of people that do not actually know how to do that. So ..... I present you the program called "Cube". It's a program that simply solves your 3x3x3 cube showing the proper move in every occasion. In the beginning you mess up your cube and put the colours in their present place (as they are in the messed-up cube). And after that the program shows you step by step the better way to solve it. To tell you the truth, I am sure that by 80% you don't own a Rubik's cube, but in case you do, I think you'll find the program useful.

Adobe SVG viewer

Still have a problem openning unknown codecs? If you've ever seen the .svg codec then you might have had a job openning it. It is a codec for images and it is oppened by only a few programs, a fact that makes it useless sometimes. One of these programs is "SVG viewer" created by "Adobe". The advantages of an .svg image are a lot. The most obvious advantage is that .svg images have a far better quality than the quality of other codecs of images (e.g.: .mpg , .gif , .png , .jp(e)g , ...). So, if you think you are going to need to open an .svg image one day, just download the program at the following site: "http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/main.html".

In addition if you need to open a file that can't be openned by the known programs (due to its unknown codec) just tell me in the comments and I'll try to find an appropriate program.

G-Force

Are you bored of watching the same visualizations every time you open Windows Media Player? Then you found another similarity between me and you!!! "G-Force", created by "Soundspectrum" is a plug-in that will help you get away of this boring situation (same, boring visualizations). It has a wide range of different visualizations and colours (of course, I can say nothing less than "amazing" about the quality) and it is used as a plug-in to WMP. The only problem with this plug-in is that its price is a bit high and as a resault you can't enjoy all the amazing features by using the free version. But the free version is still useful, if you are already bored of watching the old-time-classic WMP visualizations.

Replay Media Catcher

I have heard a lot of times people talking about their favourite videos on youtube. All of them wished that they could download them but none of them could. So in this case I'd just suggest "Replay Media Catcher", a program created by "Applian technologies", with which you can download every video from every site that you want. It's simple. You just open the program(after installing it) and start recording, which means that if you visit a site that contains a video it automatically downloads it and saves it as a flash video (.flv). It is great, and I am sure that you agree to that, BUT the full version is not completely free, so in the free version you only have the ability to download 75% of any video, appart from youtube videos, which are downloaded by 100%.

Applian FLV player

Flash videos (.flv) are getting more and more popular but the programs that can play these videos are not a lot. One of them is "FLV player" created by "Applian technologies". What is worth to say about flash videos is that they use about 3 or 4 times less space than .avi files and even less than .mpg files. So everybody could say that they are really useful, but still useless if you can't play them. As you understand this is the use of "FLV player".

Image Converter Plus

As you know, there are a lot of codecs for images. Unfortunately some programs aren't capable of openning these codecs and as a resault the images become useless. With "Image converter plus" you can convert every image to any codec that you want. You can do multiple conversions and get best quality images without spending a lot of time. The problem is that the full version is not completely free, so you can try the free version. In the free version after converting an image the program automatically adds a "watermark" on the bottom right place of the picture, which means that part of your picture will be changed a bit (to understand what I mean, take a look at the picture shown under my name in every site that I follow; it has a watermark). But in my opinion this is not a problem.

Google Earth

Amazing sights, interesting pictures of places, our space as seen from earth, Mars,..... What else do you want?!? "Google Earth" is a program produced by "Google" (as you can understand from its title...) and with this program you can fly to any place of the earth (not in the real world!!!) and see every country, every town, every island....everything just by zooming in and out!!! When you open the program you see a 3D view of the earth. Then you zoom in and see how a place is seen from a satellite. In addition people add pictures to the places and as a resault you can see...... e.g. how a port looks like and if you have some interesting pictures of places you can add them, too. Furthermore, you can see every small planet and every star in the sky just by using the program (names are included). Finally, you can see Mars in a 3D priview and zoom in and out, but I don't think that there's a lot to see on Mars yet...

What is amazing about this program is that it is completely free! For further information visit the following site: "http://earth.google.com". In this site you can also download an updater with which you are going to download and install the program. I hope you found it useful!

BPM Analyzer 1.0

Let me guess..... You love music and you always want to listen to your favourite songs, learn new songs and so on. Sometimes, when you have no radio, no internet, no mp3 player, etc. but you still want to do something that has to do with music. I think that it's a bit useless, but you could download BPM Analyzer (beats/minute analyzer) and find out the beats per minute of your songs!!!

As I said it's useless but if you have downloaded programs (as Audacity, Nero wave, ...) you can make easily two or more songs at the same tempo and then mix them and make.... something better than before!!!

Pivot Stickfigure Animator

Well, you are in front of the computer screen and have about 24 hours to do WHATEVER you want! But you notice that everything is boring. Even talking to your friends on "Windows Live Messenger" seems exhausting. Why don't you try "Pivot"

It's a program with which you can make stickfigure animations (animations with stickfigures as the one in the picture at the left), save them and whatch them whenever you want! You can also upload them to the internet, download other uploaded animations and so on. Then it will be a great form of having a great time with your friends when they visit you (watch older "creations", make new, etc.)

Web of trust (WOT)

You search for something on the internet. You press the left button of your mouse to open the site you want. But suddenly a virus gets into your pc and then you lose files (some of which might have been important), then you need to re-format your pc or erase every file that seems to be dangerous, and so on. Wouldn't it be great if you were sure about what kind of sites you are visiting?

"Web of trust" is here to help you do this!! You just install the program and then next to every site that you are about to visit, a green or yellow or red circle appears. When it's green the site is safe, when it's yellow you should always be sure about what you do when you visit the site and when it's red you should ignore the site..... The colours represent the average of the ratings. So by using this program you can also rate every site (to get points!!) and then other people will know whether it's safe to enter this site or not.....

Chemsketch 12.0

So you grab your mouse and move it until the cursor "falls" on a program or folder. Then you double-click it and start doing ..... whatever. Wouldn't it be great if it had to do with something you like. As I mention in the "About me" section , I love chemistry. So it's difficult for me not to mention the program "Chemskech", produced by "ACD/Labs (Advanced chemistry developement / Labs)". It's a program with witch you can draw every substance that you can imagine, preview it on a 3D board (rotate it, give specific colours to every element, etc.) and of course take some time learning more about chemistry...!

You can download this program from the following site : "http://www.acdlabs.com/download/chemsketch", but it's not free, so you can try the freeware version, which does not differ a lot from the full one.

Note: Sometimes when I open the program my whole computer stucks, but I think that this has to do with my computer and not with the program...

Audacity

Check it out! I recently found out the program "Audacity" and it's really exciting. You can edit any of your songs easily and fast. For example, you can cut parts of songs and use them as ringtones on your cell phone. Learn more about it on "http://audacity.sourceforge.net". It's completely free and you can do loads of things.

You may also need to download the file "lame_enc.dll" to convert your whole projects into mp3s (visit: "http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?lame_enc" and click the link above the comments to safely download the file) and of course you may need to watch some videos to learn how to use both basic and advanced tricks of the program as well (e.g.: removing vocals, adding effects, etc.) !
